ABOUT US
Fremantle 5 A Side is a fun, exciting and competitive 5 A Side soccer tournament that is played on balmy summer nights in the soccer off-season. It started as a hobby with just a handful of teams and 3 Fields in 2008 and since has grown into a much loved community event. In 2023 had our biggest competition to date with over 300 teams and 2000+ players!
We pride ourselves on being an inclusive and diverse competition for the whole family, catering to all ages, genders and skill levels!
We play 2 seasons, one starting in Spring and one in Summer. Both competitions run for 10 weeks at our home ground, Bruce Lee Oval in Beaconsfield. The spring season runs from mid October till mid December on Mondays and Wednesdays and the Summer season runs on Mondays starting in late January.
ROBERT DE KLEINE
FOUNDER AND CO-ORDINATER
Coming from the Netherlands, Robert has a life long passion with soccer and has been playing since he was 10 years old. He grew up idolising Johan Cruyff and avidly watching every game Ajax Amsterdam and The Dutch National team played.
He spent many years travelling the world before meeting his wife in the jungles of Central America and following her back to Australia.
When his daughters were young, Robert realised there was next to no opportunities for young girls to play soccer. This inspired him to embarked on a life long mission to grow female soccer in the community. Since, he has spent over 22 years working with East Fremantle Tricolore SC (which is now merged with Fremantle United SC to form Fremantle City FC) and has held every position imaginable from Coach to President to Technical Director. And currently he is the chair of the Women and Girls Subcommittee at Fremantle City FC.
